07 What is an Audiologist

An Audiologist is a university trained-professional specializing in the prevention, treatment and diagnosis of hearing and balance problems. They have the training and expertise to assess hearing problems from birth to old age and coordinate treatment options with your doctor. Virginia, as do most states, requires Audiologists to be licensed. Abingdon Ear, Nose and Throat's Audiologist have both national (American Speech/Language and Hearing Association) and State certification. They have graduated from accredited University Graduate School Programs with many supervised clinical hours, received a passing grade on the national examination and completed a Clinical Fellowship Year.

Virginia also requires a license to dispense hearing aids. Our audiologists have both Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensing state licenses and must attend accredited continuing education courses each year to renew their license.
